Joey Barton’s proposed transfer to Marseille appears be over after the QPR midfielder complained of the move’s collapse on Twitter.
Barton, 29, is expected to leave QPR after boss Mark Hughes decided to cut his losses on the controversial midfielder, who is sitting out a 12-match ban following his implosion against Manchester City on final day of last season.
A move abroad with Marseille was mooted but, as the player continued his habit of taking to Twitter, that now appears to be dead in the water.
“Been forced to go back training with the kids and fellow Taliban members at 2pm today,” Barton said, referring to being asked to train with the youth team and other transfer-listed players.
“Doesn’t look like this Marseille thing is gonna happen now. ‘Whatever doesn’t kill you make you stronger’ #heartbroken.”
Barton’s wages may well be a sticking point although reports on Monday claimed QPR could offer him a free transfer.
QPR, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, have one point from their opening two games of the 2012-13 campaign, which started with a 5-0 defeat at home to Swansea.
Marseille, meanwhile, lie top of France’s Ligue 1 after three wins in their opening three matches.
