Turks set to end Chamakh’s Emirates nightmare.
Besiktas have admitted there is a ‘strong possibility’ they will sign Arsenal striker Marouane Chamkh before Friday’s transfer deadline.
The Turkish outfit were tracking the Moroccan flop earlier in the summer but their interest cooled – much to the frustration of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
But, with just days to go until the transfer window slams shut, Besiktas have reignited their interest in the 28-year-old.
Manager Samet Aybaba told Turkish paper Milliyet: “We have decided to push forwards in our attempts to sign a striker. There is a strong possibility that we will sign sign Chamakh.”
The Moroccan international joined the Gunners on a free transfer from Bordeaux in 2010 and initially impressed. But the stunning form of Robin van Persie meant he was left on the bench for much of previous two campaigns and his rare stars have done little to suggest he can replace the Dutcman, who joined Man United this month.
Chamakh managed just one goal in 23 appearances last season and can boast just 8 Premier League strikes in his entire Arsenal career.
