The Lilywhites playmaker is set to return to his old club, despite the two sides not yet having agreed a fee for the Dutchman.

Rafael van der Vaart leaves Tottenham and goes to Hamburg

Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart is on the verge of joining Hamburg, according to the player’s agent.

The German club have had a long standing interest in re-signing their former talisman, and had an earlier offer for the player rejected and described as ‘direspectful’ by Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Van der Vaart’s agent confirmed the 29-year-old was on his was to Hamburg for a medical, but also revealed that no fee has yet been agreed between the two clubs – but remains confident that a deal will be struck before the window closes.

“I can confirm that Rafael is on his way to Hamburg now for a medical,” Robert Geerlings told Press Association Sport.

“No fee has been agreed, but when a player goes for a medical it is clear that the two parties intend to find a solution.”
