I’ve been saying it to my friends and based upon current performances so far i’ve been proven right. When Moussa Dembele (now of Tottenham) was at Fulham, not too many people other than the Fulham faithful had heard of him, but after watching him play a few times, I was sold.
Not only can this kid play, he is big and strong, agile, finds great positions, covers a lot of ground in midfield, has an eye for goal and can penetrate with good runs and his vision. Am I suggesting he is the total package? Not yet… but he definitely has the potential to be. Whoever made the decision to take him to Tottenham, Daniel Levy, AVB..whoever it was, is a very very smart man.
And we saw it this past weekend in the Manchester United vs Spurs game, an emerging Tottenham side with Dembele at the core dominated united at Old Trafford and is now beginning to make waves in the English Premier League. He governed that midfield almost like Yaya Toure governs the Man City midfield and at times he made Paul Scholes look his age.
So why didn’t United pitch in for him? I can’t answer that. Maybe they were blinded by the purchase of Robin van Persie to the point they chose to ignore a position where many believe they are seriously lacking and so desperately need. They do have Fletcher returning, so maybe Sir Alex was banking on that, but, can Fletcher give you the dominant displays that Dembele is now bringing to the Tottenham side? Nevertheless, make sure you remember the name.
