Manchester United vs Arsenal;
United beat Arsenal 2-1 in a game that was never really that close. United opened the scoring after only two minutes with Robin Van Persie scoring against his former side after a mistake by Thomas Vermaelen. United dominated throughout the game and missed a hatful of chances, including a missed Wayne Rooney penalty, against a very weak, indecisive and poor Arsenal team. The win puts united in the first place, for Arsenal, it’s another poor performance against a top four team. Based upon this performance it will be a fight to retain a four and champions league spot.
Manchester City Vs West Ham United;
West Ham come into the game with lots of confidence finding themselves in mid-table enjoying life in their return to the premier league. They were unfortunate not to come away with all three points, after being the dominant side for much of the game. Their dominance included a Kevin Nolan goal that was called back offside, while replays shows that it was clearly on. For Man City, the champions, it was another underwhelming and uninspiring performance, where they couldn’t seem to get going. City looked to be hoping for some more late game heroics from one of their stars to snatch a victory, as in the last 3 weeks. It did not happen. 0-0 draw. A great result for West Ham on paper, but they deserved all 3 points.
Tottenham vs Wigan;
Spurs lose 1-0 at home to lowly Wigan in a game they were never truly in. Spurs came into the game on a run of five wins in six games and had a good opportunity to pick up points and solidify their top 4 place. Wigan took the game to Spurs right from the very first minute and showed better possession, cohesion and generally were more lively and up for the game. Spurs were certainly second best and only showed a few moments of quality and were truly poor this afternoon as Wigan were by far the best team on the day. The 1-0 scoreline was flattering to Spurs, as Wigan deserved a lot more.
Chelsea vs Swansea;
In a game where rain and hailstone was the most exciting thing, a 1-1 score was a pretty fair result. Swansea had the better of the game in terms of ball possession and territory but could not create any real opportunities as a result. Chelsea scored against the run of play, with a Victor Moses goal 60 minutes into the match. Swansea was rewarded late in the game with three minutes remaining as Pablo Hernandes popped up to score a good goal on the end of a slick passing play. Finally their possession had paid off with a goal as an end product to their play.
1-1 was a fair result, but it caused Chelsea to concede first place to Manchester United.
Fulham vs Everton;
Everton put in a solid performance against Fulham with Marouane Fellaini, being a constant thorn in their side and the star performer. It was only the great goal keeping of Mark Schwarzer, that kept Fulham in the game. At times it looked like a duel between Fellaini & Schwarzer. Fellaini scored on 2 occasions, but was halted countless times by the excellent Schwarzer. A 2-2 draw, Everton will look back at this game as the one that got, while an undeserved point won by Fulham.
Liverpool vs Newcastle;
The home side Liverpool got off to a great start, dominating the play in the first 15 minutes, but could not convert their solid attacking play into a goal.
Luis Suarez Perez and the young Raheem Sterling were the main protagonists as liverpool pressed the play. Newcastle slowly got into their stride and eased their way back into the game with some solid possession play and got off a few attacks of their own.bThe game was scoreless until late in the first half, when
after some brilliant dribbling by Ben Arfa, he picked out Cabaye at the far post, who rocked a shot into the top corner. BThe score was tied up in the 67 minute, with a moment of absolute brilliance from Luis Suarez, scoring an unbelievable goal.
With a touch of pure class, Suarez, received a 40 yard Jose Enrique pass over his shoulder, brought it down on his chest, and on his second touch, dribbled pass the keeper and on his 3rd touch, poked the ball into the empty net. An absolutely brilliant goal. Liverpool went close several times after and became more dominant after Colochini was sent off for a crude challenge on Suarez, but could not get on the scoreboard again. 1-1 a fair result for both teams.
Stoke vs Norwich City;
Norwich come into the game unbeaten in there last 2 games, looking to extend it, while Stoke have been on the wrong end of results after some good performances. Chances were both sides were at a premium in a hard-fought game. Norwich, scored in one of the few good chances in the game and went on to win the game. For Norwich, the win puts more space between them and the relegation zone, whole Stoke drop one spot closer.
Sunderland vs Aston Villa;
Bottom of the table clash with both teams hovering around the relegation zone in 16th and 15th spot. The game was an expectedly drab affair, with little goal mouth action or any real quality play. Aston Villa walk out 1-0 winners and take all 3 points and their 1st home win of the season, while Sunderland scoring only 6 goals in 9 games continue to struggle. it’s going to be a long hard struggle for both of the teams.
QPR. Vs Reading;
Bottom of the table clash, with both teams looking for their 1st win of the season. QPR dominated most of the early play but couldn’t create any real scoring opportunities. Reading went up with a goal against the run of play, but QPR’s Gerbil Cisse tied the game showing good skill and determination in the box. QPR came close to getting a winner but couldn’t quite pull it off.
1-1 stalemate. Both teams go away still seeking their 1st win of the season, as they are both candidates for relegation.
