Pep is the son of a bricklayer. I can only guess that the nouveau riche attitude of his mega rich suitors only repelled him.

“Bayern weren’t the team which offered the most money,” said Pep Guardiola’s agent, Josep Maria Orobitg.

Bayern themselves, as Raphael Honigstein wrote, realised early on that in pure financial terms they would not be able to match the riches available at Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City or Chelsea. So they focused on pointing out the similarities between Bayern and Barcelona instead.

As reported, Pep got HUGE offers from Chelsea, PSG and Manchester City. Abu Dhabi and Qatar offered their riches and Roman Abramovich gave him a “blank check”. But Pep is the son of a bricklayer, who grew up on values of hard work, modesty, humility, simplicity and good manners. I can only guess that the nouveau riche attitude of his suitors only  repelled him.

“The little boy inside of him”, if we adopt Robin Van Persie’s idiom, told Pep to reject the big money and get connected to a club with similar values to his.

And this is what he is going to get at Bayern Munich.
