The 23 old England forward has been in sizzling form since his switch from Chelsea to Liverpool, but why was he not able to produce at Manchester City or Chelsea.
In theory his performances should have been better, with better squads at both City and Chelsea. What it boils down to is value. How he sees himself. He is not the only one to flourish at Liverpool FC. Liverpool are in need of success and a star.
It was the fans that brought out the best in Torres, who since his switch from the red side of Liverpool to Chelsea for £50 million, has pretty much been a flop. Torres when he arrived at Liverpool, wasn’t really known as a goal scorer that would get you a bunch of goals. At Athletico Madrid, he was their main forward, but, when he moved to Liverpool, that’s when the goals really started racking up.
Maybe it is to do with the style of play at Liverpool, where they heavily rely on the forward players and channel everything through them that makes players like that stand out more. The Chelsea’s, Man City’s and even United’s of this world tend to score from most areas of the field and aren’t reliant on just the front two. Maybe this is why Sturridge is firing on all cylinders.
But I know some will definitely argue this point. It’s just a theory. However, one theory that you may agree with is that Sturridge needs confidence to succeed. He definitely wasn’t getting it at his previous clubs, but at Liverpool, he is a star signing, and you can see it in the way he plays.
The flair that you may not have seen him produce at City, you can see him introducing into his game at Liverpool, which in all honesty has taken me by surprise. He is the type of player than needs to be needed, loved and cherish. If you have that, you will get the best out of him. That is probably why, he won’t ever succeed as an England International, or at a very big club, no disrespect to Liverpool.
My prediction is that he will keep scoring goals and do well for Liverpool, especially playing alongside Luis Suarez, the two are tailor-made for, the perfect foil, they play off of each other very well. Suarez, draws a lot of attention to him and with the strength and pace of Sturridge, it makes the Liverpool front line one of the best in the league. If Suarez stays at Liverpool and doesn’t move to City as has been suggested in recent days, with a few new players at Liverpool, maybe we will see a Liverpool revival. Let’s wait and see, but I can see the Anfield faithful licking their lips, they just need to be a little patient with the results. They will come!
