Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich defeated Barcelona 2-0 in a preseason friendly that pitted his new side against his former team. in a keenly waited matchup.
For most, they would say that it is only a friendly, but in games like this where the top teams are playing each other, there are never any friendly games. The results matter and this is something David Moyes seems to have overlooked, because since taking over the reigns he has last 2 out of the last 3 games over teams that have never been heard of before.
Some also use the excuse that he (Moyes) was only using 3 starters in anyone one of these games, but really is this good enough for a manager that has taken the mantle from the most successful manager to ever grace the game?
The signs are not good, because when you take over from a manager like Sir Alex Ferguson you will always have your critics, they are big shoes to fill, and the way to silence them is by getting results and ultimately win trophies. What is so troubling about this start, is that he seems to have overlooked one key thing, Manchester United should not be losing any games, period!
This was the difference between Sir Alex and all those left in his wake. When he put teams out, even if they were slightly weaker than his usual starting line ups, he measured it in a way that they would still beat their opposition. Friendly or not. The reason I started this article with Pep Guardiola, is because he like Sir Alex is that type of manager and seems to get it.
Which brings me to the next question?
Is David Moyes the right man for the job? Maybe I am being hasty with this, as he has only had a month in charge, i normally give people the benefit of the doubt. But he came to United with no trophies, so he has no track record for success. When Sir Alex came to Manchester United, he was proven even with the smaller clubs. This is for starters, and to begin with 2 losses from 3?
David Moyes has to get his act together and quickly, or he will be moving his furniture out even before he has had time to settle in. I would love to hear your thoughts. Is David Moyes the right man for the Job? How long do you give him as the Manager? Will he win anything this year?
