So the question is, does Gareth Bale leave now for one of the biggest clubs in the world, who are clearly interested in him to the point of a world record bid for the Welsh Superstar, or does he wait one more year for what appears to be an inevitability.
For starters we know Tottenham FC are a selling club, so even though they are posturing as if they are keeping Bale, we all know that will never happen. Having sold the likes of Carrick, Modric and Berbatov in the past, for Tottenham and Levy it is a small matter of financial leverage. Everyone has their price and it has taken a world record bid of £85 Million to finally nudge this transfer saga into life.
So why is Gareth Bale worth so much? The Messi’s, Ronaldo’s and Bales of this world are far and few between. These are game changers, match winners, the make an average team good, a good team great. Similar to Maradona who took a very average Napoli side to title winners, this is what great players do.
And we have seen this week in and week out from all of these players. And now Bale. He has gone from being able to turn world-beating performances sporadically to world-beating performances on a very regular basis. This equates to being special and any player like that is wanted, hence the price tag.
Where will he fit in at Real Madrid? He will mostly play on the left like he does at Tottenham, being one of the best in the world in that position and then Ronaldo will most likely occupy a more central role in the team. But what this signing will do, is take Real Madrid to entire new level, and back to the days of Luis Figo, Ronaldo, Beckham and Zidane.
A team built from superstars. A dream team, that fans will pay to watch. This signing will happen, it is inevitable, but results aren’t so hopefully he will live up to the star billing in what looks to be an interesting year in La Liga and the Champions League.
