And as Benteke stepped up to take a very controversial penalty, Arsene Wenger must have been cursing his luck. After replays showed Laurent Koscielny’s lunge on Agbonlahor from the referees point of view seemed a clear penalty, however, from another angle it showed that Koscielny’s foot reached the ball before e down Agbonlahor.
However, Wenger may have had words with Laurent after the game because the challenge could have been avoided as Agbonlahor wasn’t directly in front of goal and still had a lot of work to do.
All this is irrelevant now as the final result of 3-1 puts Arsene under serious pressure having not signed one player during the transfer window and with a kitty that is bulging, tempers were flared amongst the faithful especially after the third goal went in, when their attention went from the referee to Arsene and began to boo him.
Arsene Wenger the most successful Arsenal manager of all time has failed to lift a trophy in the last 8 years and for a club of the stature of Arsenal that is 6 or even 7 years too long according to some.
It would be less of a problem except for the fact that a player they had sold only last year was in Swansea scoring a brace. Van Persie a product of Arsene and Arsenal you could say brought Manchester United the title last season, so the Arsenal faithful could be wondering when their next trophy will come.
Arsenal have in recent years become a selling club with Fabregas, Van Persie and Samir Nasri but to name a few joining rival clubs, who have gone on to bring in trophies.
It’s not been for a lack of trying though, Arsene had made a couple of attempts to bring in Suarez from Liverpool and recently submitted a bid for Rooney, but to no avail.
With the fans up in arms, surely this can’t be the season where Arsene leaves the club he helped build in recent times?
I sure hope not, he is Arsenal and some of the fans need to recognize that the trophies they enjoyed nearly a decade ago was based on the same philosophy they harbor now.
And actually, if the referee had made a few different calls, this game could have easily been a Win for Arsenal. But football as we all know is a game of inches, one inch here or there, a goal is counted for or hits the bar, or there is an offside called.
I hope the fans take that all into consideration when they come to conclusions, because Arsenal weren’t outplayed, they were simply unlucky to come away with no points on this day. And my question is, who would they replace Arsene with? I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
